William McAlvanah has been a licensed attorney since 1969 and is a partner at Hilberth & McAlvanah. Mr. McAlvanah specializes in Immigration Law with an emphasis on cases involving permanent residents with criminal records. He also handles other cases involving adjustments of status, visa petitions before U.S. consulates abroad, naturalization, asylum and representation of clients before the Immigration Courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
Mr. McAlvanah is past chairman of the American Immigration Lawyers Association New Jersey Chapter, and currently serves as AILA mentor to younger and/or less experienced attorneys. He has authored many articles about immigration law and has also lectured on the topic.
He has been named in Best Lawyers in America, New Jersey Super Lawyers and New Jersey Best Lawyers over the last decade. He has also been the recipient of the Legal Services of New Jersey Equal Justice Medal and the American Bar Association Commendation as a coordinator for the Haitian Pro Bono Project to secure legal representation for indigent persons seeking admission to the United States.
Prior to private practice he worked for Hudson County Legal Services in Jersey City, after graduating from Seton Hall Law School
